Lynn Community Health Center Celebrates 40 Years

Event honored CEOs of Partners HealthCare and North Shore Medical Center

In 40 years, Lynn Community Health Center has grown from a storefront facility that served 500 patients in its first year into a multi-site health center that serves more than 34,000 patients yearly. On November 3, it celebrated this milestone at “Building for the Future: 40 Years and Growing.”

Honored at the event were Gary Gottlieb, MD, President and CEO of Partners HealthCare, and Robert Norton, President and CEO of North Shore Medical Center.

“I am honored to be a part of this remarkable achievement for the Lynn Community Health Center. The unique and longstanding collaboration between Partners HealthCare, North Shore Medical Center and the health center is helping to improve the lives of patients in the community,” said Gary Gottlieb, MD, President and CEO, Partners HealthCare. “Thank you for all you do for the people and the neighborhoods of Lynn.”

“Our work with the Lynn Community Health Center is an indispensable part of our efforts to deliver better care that is also more affordable,” says Norton. “Together, we are helping patients receive the right care at the right time in the right place – and that’s the gold standard for higher-quality, more efficient care.”

This year the Health Center will also celebrate the completion of its new facility on Union Street. The new urgent care center opened in September, and the entire 3-story expansion will be open in January 2012.

“It has been an incredible journey,” said Lori Abrams Berry, Executive Director. “We have not done it alone. We have had wonderful friends and allies, and the most notable has been Partners HealthCare and North Shore Medical Center.”

Strong and deep ties have marked the relationship between the health center and Partners and North Shore Medical Center since Partners acquired the Medical Center in 1996 and Union Hospital joined the organizations one year later. The first major collaboration was a walk-in clinic, which has now doubled in size. This was followed by a pharmacy program, two satellite practices in Market Square, the expansion of behavioral health, and a new eye clinic.

Ongoing collaborations help reduce unnecessary emergency room visits, ensure that our patients receive laboratory and radiology services on site, help connect patients with specialists, and support community health workers for at-risk populations.

Last year, Partners HealthCare helped launch the health center’s capital campaign with a lead gift of $3,000,000.

“The goal of our collaboration is simple. To ensure that people in our community have access to quality, comprehensive healthcare services near where they live,” said Berry.
