Breastfeeding Peer Counselors are mothers in the community with personal breastfeeding experience who provide information and support to other mothers. They understand the joys and challenges of breastfeeding, and how to overcome barriers.
Who are the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselors?
They are non-judgemental
They work with each mother to best meet her baby’s needs
They treat mothers with respect and dignity and are concerned with their feelings
They show mothers how to avoid potential problems, and how to overcome those they encounter
Who can see a WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor?
You need to receive WIC services to participate in the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling program.
Our Breastfeeding Peer Counselors support women through pregnancy, new motherhood, going back to work, and weaning. They are available for support at all stages of breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding Peer Counselors offer both indivudal counseling and support groups.
